The U.S. may have lifted its trade embargo with Cuba, but it’s still incredibly hard for Cubans to do business with Americans because of the country’s dilapidated financial infrastructure. The online payments company Stripe is trying to help them and other global entrepreneurs clear that hurdle—and it’s teamed up with Orrick to do so.

Orrick contributed guidance for Stripe’s new startup toolkit, Stripe Atlas, which provides entrepreneurs with a Stripe account, a bank account at Silicon Valley Bank, a tax ID number, incorporation as a U.S. business entity, and a host of other resources. When Stripe founder Patrick Collison accompanied President Obama to Cuba in March and announced that Stripe Atlas would become available there, it represented the culmination of months of hard work for Orrick partner John Bautista, who led his firm’s collaboration with Stripe’s in-house legal team.
