Far from cowering in the face of increased awareness and action in the legal industry and beyond, cyberattackers are doubling down on encryption ransomware attacks, with deployments reaching record levels in 2016, according to a report by Kaspersky Lab.

The cybersecurity firm noted that the amount of users who encountered a ransomware attack rose almost 18 percent from around 1.96 million in April 2014 to March 2015, to 2.3 million during same period in 2015 to 2016.
