A simple chatbot that prepares parking ticket appeals created by 19 year old Stanford student Joshua Browder has sparked much interest and concern in the legal community as the latest addition to “disruptive” legal tech.
The chatbot, called DoNotPay, prompts the user for answers to a few basic questions about their ticket and reason for the appeal, and then generates an appeal for users based on their answers. The service was first made available in Browder’s hometown of London, but was expanded out to New York City in March, though New Yorkers cannot yet file DoNotPay’s appeals electronically.
