On Oct. 7, the Cook County,Illinois, Recorder of Deeds’ office will launch a pilot program to use blockchain technology to secure and store conveyance and other public records. The program is the first in the nation of its kind, the office said.

The county recorder’s office, which serves the metro Chicago area, will be working with Velox.re, a real estate-focused blockchain startup based in California, to put together the pilot. The program will take place over six months, using blockchain to both manage transaction data and vacant properties within the Cook County area.
