When Julia Jacobson started her career as an advertising and marketing attorney for technology startups, she didn’t anticipate the wave of big data that would force open her practice area into questions of data privacy and security. Because both advertising and data privacy are regulated in large part through the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Act and its state-level iterations, Jacobson found a niche working on data use and protection policies for startups.
