For all the advancements legal technology has made in closing the justice gap, a relatively low-tech website and hotline may still be able make a big difference.

New York City-based startup Good Call is taking this approach. The nonprofit, whose services are free of charge, provides a hotline to connect to a local legal-aid attorney, and, if they register emergency-contact information on Good Call’s website in advance, automatically inform their friends or family of legal issues as well.
