Document formatting is among the key differentiators between legal and other kinds of writing. Legal’s industry-specific formatting is so prevalent, there’s even a market for a keyboard to help attorneys format documents to spec. But while document design may seem set in stone for attorneys, revisiting these norms may help ease the strain of reading legal writing.

Alexandra Devendra, founder of Devendra Design, launched her design consultancy after spending three years as an associate at Nixon Peabody. Her idea was to bring to fellow attorneys the expertise she developed in formatting and applying good design to legal writing.
