The attorney for the Authors Guild urged a federal judge last week to reject Google Inc.’s motion to dismiss its claim that the wholesale copying of millions of books for Google’s digital library violates the Copyright Act.

Joanne Zack of Boni & Zack in Bala Cynwyd, Pa., counsel to the guild, told Judge Denny Chin of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit that to expect hundreds of thousands of authors to “individually litigate is unfair,” and asked him to certify the case as a class action.
