A note to all angry employees who dream of hacking into their employers’ computer system — don’t. The consequences can be dire. A husband and wife who enacted a digital revenge were recently sentenced to three years probation according to Rich Lord in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The worst part of the penalty? Three years of no smart phone use.

Alyson and Jonathan Cunningham, with the help of a friend, hacked into her former employer’s computer system, owned by the law firm Voelker & Gricks. The Pennsylvania couple threatened the firm under the guise of the hacker group “Anonymous,” Lord reports. They should have known better than to tamper with the files of a law firm. A partner at the firm said that no confidential data was compromised in the hoax, but the Cunninghams didn’t get off that easy. They pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor of unlawful password trafficking, according to Lord.
