Mobile lawyers that leave the relative safety of their office and rely on mobile hot spots to connect various devices to the web could be putting the law firm and client data at risk.

Russian security researchers have found chinks in the software of 3G and 4G modems manufactured by Chinese companies Huawei and ZTE, according to Brad Casey, a network security expert at SearchSecurity.com. Like the packet sniffers of the early 2000s, these hackers access packets of data that passes through hot spots. At stake here is information stored in your file system&mdashwe’re talking emails, HTML files and even browsing histories.
