Priska Neely on NPR’s “All Tech Considered” covered the We Robot conference, held April 4 and 5 at the University of Miami Newman Alumni Center, Coral Gables, Fla. According to Michael Froomkin, the conference brought together legal and robotic professionals to “get [robot] makers and thinkers in the same room” and to think through issues, such as “Does self-defense exist—against a robot?”

“You design stuff to make it work and you don’t think a lot about the legal and social consequences,” Froomkin told NPR. By the time lawyers get in the picture, the robots are already made and deployed. The goal of the conference was to get everyone together beforehand.
