On my journey from San Francisco to Chicago for the 20th anniversary installment of ABA Techshow — my first visit to the event, held April 20 to 22 — I looked forward to learning more about how technology would soon be advancing our professional lives in the legal industry. But along the way, and at the event itself, I was reminded of technology’s ability to screw things up.

On my flight, by the way, I spotted several people wielding Treo smart phones. The guy in the aisle seat of my row was bragging about his. I didn’t see a single person using or talking about a BlackBerry, the lawyer’s historical favorite. Not that that means anything.
