Back when industry leader Documentum Inc. was snapped up by EMC Corp. for $1.7 billion in 2003, FileNet Inc. was seen as the next logical prize to be targeted in the content management software sector.
It ended up taking longer than anticipated, but FileNet was finally snagged by IBM Corp. Thursday for $1.6 billion. In the interim, there have been more than 30 acquisitions of smaller content management companies.
