Compliance is a slippery word: It has many interpretations, but no fixed definition. “People’s perceptions of compliance are shaped by the piece that they’ve been exposed to,” says Kevin Crimmins, counsel and vice president of Sales for Farmington, Conn.-based Software Impressions, which makes the Web-based case-management system EthicsAdvantage.
Crimmins notes that in the post-Sarbanes-Oxley era and since issuance of the revised sentencing guidelines, demonstration of an ethical culture through transparency and periodic progress assessment is essential to corporate success.
