One of the primary elements of a personal computer is the central processing unit, a small, approximately two-inch square silicon component that handles all of the complex tasks that a computer performs. While a hard drive might be the “heart” of your computer, the CPU is the “brain.”

In the past, processors and the accompanying computer lingo would get updated periodically. A “486″ computer gave way to a Pentium, which kept getting updated to the Pentium 4 that we have now. These terminologies were based on CPUs made by Intel, one of the leading manufacturers for the home and business market.
