Microsoft Corp. has made the latest acquisition in the consolidating speech recognition market with its purchase Wednesday of Tellme Networks Inc.
The Redmond, Wash.-based software giant likely paid about $800 million according to press reports and analysts. Tellme of Mountain View, Calif., raised more than $260 million from General Atlantic, Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers and Benchmark Capital and was viewed as a candidate for an initial public offering.
