Making its largest acquisition in nearly four years, Franco-American software maker Business Objects SA said Monday that it would buy enterprise performance management software maker Cartesis SA for $300 million in cash.

The acquisition adds to a line of software that Business Objects started building with the mid-2005 purchase of SRC Software for $100 million. The deal comes on the heels of Oracle Corp.’s $3.3 billion deal to buy Business Objects rival Hyperion Solutions Corp.
