It was a one-two punch for Simpson Thacher & Bartlett litigator Joseph McLaughlin, who racked up a pair of wins this week.

On behalf of client Virtus Investment Partners, McLaughlin—author of the widely cited McLaughlin on Class Actions: Law and Practice—fended off class certification in a securities case, even though such approval is often routine.

He also scored an appellate win on behalf of Countrywide Home Loans Inc., reversing an unfavorable trial court decision in a residential mortgage backed securities case.
