Our Litigators of the Week are Weil, Gotshal & Manges partners Diane Sullivan and Allison Brown. On October 11, they prevailed before a New Jersey state court jury on behalf of Johnson & Johnson, which  faces thousands of suits alleging talcum powder causes mesothelioma, a deadly lung cancer.

ALM’s  Amanda Bronstad, who has been following the cases, wrote that this was the eighth mesothelioma trial. Four others ended in mistrials, one was a defense verdict, and one plaintiff was awarded $25.75 million. Another plaintiff got $117 million–in the same court where Sullivan and Brown (who were not counsel in the prior cases) were litigating:  Middlesex County Superior Court.
