Our runners up for Litigator of the Week include Latham & Watkins partners Sadik Huseny and Robert Sims in collaboration with Equal Justice Under Law won a sweeping victory in a constitutional challenge to San Francisco’s system of cash bail. Representing a class of indigent arrestees who were forced to remain in jail before arraignment, the Latham team on Tuesday won final judgment that eliminates cash bail in San Francisco.

Also in San Francisco, free press advocates notched a notable win. Jassy Vick Carolan partner Duffy Carolan, who represented The First Amendment Coalition, the Society of Professional Journalists (NorCal Chapter) and Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, teamed up with Thomas R. Burke of Davis Wright Tremaine, who represented freelance journalist Bryan Carmody. They prevailed in getting the last of five warrants that authorized searches of Carmody’s home, office and phone records unsealed and rendered void, with five different judges granting Carmody’s motion to quash.
