Hundreds of millions of people—confined to their homes and cut off from offices, family and travel—have flocked to the video conference platform Zoom to conduct business, to attend school and to socialize.

That puts Chief Legal Officer Aparna Bawa in the eye of an unprecedented stress test for the company she joined in 2018.

Aparna Bawa

On this Legal Speak podcast, Bawa joins host Vanessa Blum for a candid discussion of what the coronavirus pandemic has meant for Zoom, how the company is trying to help people connect and some of the lessons she's learned from the unanticipated surge in use.

Bawa, who joined Zoom in 2018 after stints at Magento Commerce, Nimble Storage and Inphi Corp., also describes the career experience that's been most critical to her success in-house and what she looks for in outside counsel.

Following the interview, stay tuned to hear short takes on the new normal from litigator Sharon Nelles of Sullivan & Cromwell; white-collar defender Abbe Lowell of Winston & Strawn; law firm marketing consultant Deborah Farone of Farone Advisors; and IP partner Michael Kasdan of Wiggin and Dana.
