To anyone who might mistakenly think a plaintiffs lawyer’s work is done once a settlement is reached, let this be a lesson to you.

After Chris Seeger of Seeger Weiss reached a $1 billion deal with the National Football League in 2017 to settle litigation brought on behalf of retired players related to concussion-related injuries, his office began getting calls from players who were being hit up with offers. The pitch to the players was a quicker, lower payout in exchange for signing over the rights to their full settlement amount when it was later paid out.
