Gov. Gavin Newsom has found a generous ally in his efforts to beat back the campaign to recall him: California’s plaintiffs bar.

Since the spring, nine of the state’s biggest personal injury firms have contributed a combined $1 million to defeat the recall effort, campaign disclosures show. Burlingame-based firm Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy led the effort with a $250,000 donation July 15.
