On a normal day, knocking out the threat of an import ban on iPhones and iPads would be huge news for Apple and its busy roster of patent litigators. But Friday, as pretty much everybody knows, was not just any old day for Apple, thanks to the company’s $1 billion mega-verdict against Samsung.

With all the hoopla over the Samsung trial in San Jose, it was easy to forget that a judge in a different case was threatening to block iPhone sales on the grounds that the popular devices infringe a Motorola Mobility patent. The threat of such an injunction dissipated on Friday, thanks to a court win for Apple’s lawyers at Weil Gotshal & Manges.
