Irvine, Calif.-based Masimo Corp. has stuck with its lawyers at Knobbe, Martens, Olson & Bear for more than two decades as it has grown from a tiny startup to a global medical technology company with more than $500 million in annual revenues. On Wednesday, Knobbe Martens partner Joseph Re showed Masimo that the company’s still in good hands, winning a major verdict against one of the few holdouts that has refused to license its patents.

A federal jury in Wilmington, Del., determined that Philips Electronics SA should pay $466.8 million for infringing two Masimo patents on technology for monitoring blood-oxygen levels. Philips made five different arguments for why the patents are invalid, all of which were rejected by the jury.
