Last week ended on a decidedly sour note for Amkor Technology Inc., a chip assembly and testing contractor that’s been locked in endless litigation with semiconductor intellectual property company Tessera Technologies Inc. But the news was all good for Tessera and its lawyers at Irell & Manella.

A team from Irell, including Benjamin Hattenbach, Jason Sheasby and Morgan Chu, persuaded a state court judge in San Francisco to confirm an earlier arbitration award against Amkor that now stands at about $128.3 million with interest. On Oct. 9, Superior Court Judge Richard Kramer rejected Amkor’s petition to vacate the award, which involved claims that Amkor breached a 1996 licensing agreement with Tessera.
