After losing an early bid to escape the wrath of Facebook Inc., three major law firms are hoping they’ll have better luck before a New York appeals court.

On Monday, DLA Piper, Milberg and Lippes Mathias Wexler Friedman appealed a ruling by Judge Eileen Rakower of state supreme court in Manhattan, who earlier this month refused to dismiss Facebook’s lawsuit accusing the firms of malicious prosecution and attorney deceit. In her May 11 decision, Rakower found that Facebook had adequately alleged that the law firms perpetuated an elaborate fraud by Paul Ceglia, a western New York businessman who claimed that a long-forgotten contract with Mark Zuckerberg entitled him to an 84 percent stake in the social media giant.
