A steak dinner and some pinot noir may have been the downfall of a competitive golfer who was convicted Tuesday of insider trading.
After a seven-day trial, a Boston federal jury returned a guilty verdict against 41-year-old Eric McPhail, an amateur golfer whom prosecutors accused of receiving and passing along inside business information from an executive at American Superconductor Corp. The information included advance notice of favorable earnings reports, and a heads-up about a $100 million contract that American Superconductor signed with a Chinese company.
