The federal government is by far the largest single employer of lawyers in the country—the Justice Department alone has more than 10,000 attorneys, 88 percent of them litigators.

These are the guys who take actual cases to trial on a regular basis, who get to stand up in court and say they represent the United States of America. It can give you shivers.
