The University of California Hastings College of the Law hopes to replace its aging academic center in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district with a new building—and to leverage the campus’ proximity to the city’s growing technology hub.

California Gov. Jerry Brown has included nearly $45 million for the project in his proposed 2015-16 budget, but the school needs the blessing of state lawmakers, dean Frank Wu said.
