Two William Mitchell College of Law professors have filed suit to block a proposed change to the school's tenure code that would allow elimination of tenured faculty positions in its proposed merger with Hamline University School of Law.

Such a change would erode job protections professors understood they would receive when they joined the faculty, professors Carl Moy and John Radsan argue in a complaint filed on April 3 in Ramsey County, Minnesota, District Court.

“If defendant could unilaterally amend the tenure code such that those faculty who were already tenured would no longer be tenured, the promise of tenure under the tenure code would be unenforceable and therefore illusory,” the suit reads.
