The academic year is drawing to a close and final exams are just around the corner, but more than 1,700 law students will set aside their textbooks and outlines this weekend and pick up softball gloves and bats.

Nearly 120 teams from more than 50 law schools will converge in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Friday for the 32nd annual UVA Law Softball Invitational—an event one organizer described as the national championship of law school softball.

“It's great to have all these law schools coming together for one weekend,” said Vanessa Vogler, a second-year student at the University of Virginia School of Law and one of two tournament directors. “I can't think of many other activities where you get people from 50 different law schools together in one place. Everyone is having a good time together.”
