Michael McCann spent Monday in eager anticipation. The National Football League was expected to announce its decision in the “Deflategate” scandal at any minute, and the University of New Hampshire School of Law professor was preparing to offer commentary to Sports Illustrated, where he serves as a legal analyst.

The league that afternoon announced the suspension of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady for four games, fined the team $1 million and revoked two draft picks after concluding it purposefully deflated balls before a postseason game.

All of which will provide classroom fodder for McCann, who last week unveiled an undergraduate course titled Deflategate that has generated plenty of buzz in the news media and on Twitter. The class will cover a variety of sports law topics but will culminate in the controversy surrounding the Patriots' recent Super Bowl victory.
