Widener University's two law campuses began operating as separate schools this week, completing a split officials first announced in March. The separation is intended to allow each campus to develop its own identity and strength. They now have their own deans, names, websites and accreditation from the American Bar Association.

As of Wednesday, the Wilmington, Delaware, campus—the older and larger of the two locations—has been rebranded as Widener University Delaware Law School under dean Rodney Smolla. He previously served as dean of Washington and Lee University School of Law and the University of Richmond School of Law, and as president of Furman University.

“We have a bright future ahead,” Smolla said. “We wish our sister school in Harrisburg well, and look forward to both of us progressing in positive new directions that allow our individual identities and strengths to shine through. Our Delaware students will be at the heart of everything we do.”
