University of Chicago Law School has tapped its own criminal justice scholar and law and economics professor, Thomas Miles, to be the next dean.

On Nov. 1, Miles, 47, will succeed Michael Schill, who became dean at the school in 2010 and left on July 1 to become president of the University of Oregon.

Miles said he would focus on the school's interdisciplinary programs and legal clinics and the law school's culture of “intellectual exchange.”
