Thomas Curry announced Wednesday he would step down from his role as Comptroller of the Currency this week and return to his home in Boston.

Keith Noreika, partner at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, was named by the U.S. Department of the Treasury as acting comptroller, effective the same day as Curry's May 5 departure.

In a statement issued Wednesday, Curry said his time leading the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency “has been the highlight of [his] career.”
