Nixon Peabody's office in Washington, D.C., held a party on its rooftop during last week's solar eclipse. But the building's real reason to celebrate has more to do with when the sun is out.

The firm became a trailblazer this year in the nation's capital after it negotiated to place both horizontal and vertical solar panels on top of its Brookfield Office Properties Inc.-owned commercial office building in Penn Quarter. Nixon Peabody moved into three floors in the space two years ago, and the solar panel project was completed in December 2016.
