What was the most valuable lesson you learned in your first year of practice? The greatest legal education is what you learn from other lawyers, not what you studied in law school. I have worked with some exceptional lawyers and tried to soak up their knowledge and expertise — and noted what to avoid from not-so-exceptional lawyers.

Describe your biggest win or accomplishment in practice. My biggest win was in a matter before the [Federal Election Commission] where my client seemed doomed, and turning it around to a unanimous victory in favor [of] the client. My biggest accomplishment was making partner at age 36. Both were more rewarding for being unexpected.
