What was the most valuable lesson you learned in your first year of practice? I remember realizing that I needed to learn to make decisions based on imperfect information and to accept that they may turn out to be wrong. The key is to develop a good decision-making process, which is invaluable at every stage of your career.
Describe your biggest win or accomplishment in practice. I recently obtained a ruling invalidating 23 claims from three patents — all of the claims we challenged. I am particularly proud of this because these same patents had been previously successfully asserted against a different party, with the jury awarding over $100 million in damages.
Who do you consider to be your greatest lawyer mentor? [Williams & Connolly] partner Glenn Pfadenhauer, who recently passed away, was my greatest lawyer mentor. He taught me to be confident in my legal abilities and unafraid of new challenges. He routinely gave me opportunities to develop new skills before I knew I was ready.
