Robert Mueller III, the special counsel leading the Russia investigation, on Tuesday publicly filed his team's first expenditure report. The $6.7 million in expenses includes $3.2 million attributable directly to the prosecutors and staff working for Mueller, and another $3.5 million from U.S. Justice Department components that have supported the special counsel.

“Although neither legally required nor reported in prior Special Counsels' Statements of Expenditures, DOJ components that support the SCO were asked to track expenditures attributable to the investigations,” the special counsel's office said in a report. “The expenditures for this period totaled $3,546,000, which approximates expenditures the components would have incurred for the investigations irrespective of the existence of the SCO.”

Mueller reported $1.7 million in personnel compensation and benefits for members of his team. According to the report: $500,696 was for special counsel employees, and $1.2 million was for reimbursable Justice Department employees who are on detail at the Mueller team.

The expenditure report covers May 17, 2017 through September 30, 2017. Another report will be filed in six months.
