In our 2019 Pro Bono Hot List, we note 16 law firms that serve as examples to their peers in the industry for their work providing legal services for the underserved.

To be certain, the profession is now more than ever recognizing that our talents as lawyers compel us to reach those in need. This made for quite the competitive year for law firm submissions for the Pro Bono Hot List. But in the end, we carefully selected 16 law firms that represent excellence in service.

The lawyers and firms featured on this year's list advocated for the Sixth Amendment rights of a client on death row, secured the largest civil single-plaintiff human trafficking award in U.S. history, scored a win for Georgia voters and went to bat for children trying to obtain an education in New York and New Mexico. They also developed a project that helped to locate the parents of separated children and secured a precedent before the U.S. Supreme Court that has resulted in more noncitizens avoiding automatic deportation. Read about these key client matters and others in this year's list.

Next, in 1 on 1: Conversations with Newsmakers, Erin Mulvaney catches up with Sanford Heisler Sharp's David Sanford about his firm's work on gender discrimination litigation against large law firms. Sanford also weighs in on how the legal landscape has changed since #MeToo. Can we gauge the movement's impact on jury verdicts? Read Mulvaney's interview for more.

In our opinion column, Victor Hansen and Lawrence Friedman, both professors at New England Law|Boston consider what prosecutorial discretion can tell us about how we approach the impeachment question. Is Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi right when she says it's off the table?
