Former U.S. Congressman Jeffrey Denham, a Republican who represented two Northern California districts over four terms between 2011 and January this year, joined K&L Gates on Wednesday as a government affairs counselor in Washington, D.C.

“K&L has a global presence, and I'm excited to work with a firm that has a focus on the issue areas that are the focus of clients that I'm talking to,” Denham said.

Denham, who is not a lawyer, declined to identify those clients, saying that it was still “too early” to name them. During his time in the House, he was a member of the transportation and infrastructure committee, where he led several subcommittees including on economic development, and was also a member of the agriculture, natural resources and veterans' affairs committees.

“Anyone who knows Jeff knows that he is a go-getter,” said Darrell Conner, co-leader of the policy practice in D.C., in a statement. “He did so as a member of Congress, as a candidate and as a business owner. He's going to be a great addition to the K&L Gates team.”

Denham lost reelection to Congress last year to Rep. Josh Harder, a Democrat. Before he entered Congress, he was a California state representative. In Congress he represented the 19th District from 2011 to 2013 and the 10th District from 2013 to 2019, areas that include San Jose, California, and part of the San Joaquin Valley southeast of San Francisco.

He said Wednesday he has no plans to pursue elective office in the future but maintains a home in California and will continue to work on issues that are important to his state. He is also an Air Force veteran who served in Iraq and Somalia; the founder of Denham Plastics LLC, a provider of “plastic material handling solutions”; and an almond farmer.

“Jeff's depth of experience both in Congress and as a business owner provides our clients with a unique resource who understands commercial and legislative operations and can help address many issues they're facing,” said Bruce Heiman, a K&L Gates partner in D.C., in a statement.

Denham said he considered other firms but decided K&L Gates was the best fit due to his existing relationships there and because of the firm's global footprint.
