Rudy Giuliani said Wednesday that he is being represented by two partners at Pierce Bainbridge Beck Price & Hecht and a lawyer at Davidoff Hutcher & Citron amid allegations he helped President Donald Trump manipulate U.S. foreign policy in Ukraine for political goals.
Giuliani tweeted Wednesday afternoon that he was being "represented and assisted by" Eric Creizman and Melissa Madrigal, both partners at Pierce Bainbridge in New York, and Robert Costello, an early friend of Giuliani's. Costello previously represented Michael Cohen, President Trump's former attorney and fixer.
Giuliani also tweeted: "The evidence, when revealed fully, will show that this present farce is as much a frame-up and hoax as Russian collusion, maybe worse, and will prove the President is innocent."
It's not exactly clear what legal threats Giuliani, a personal attorney for Trump, might face. The House of Representatives has focused its impeachment inquiry on Trump's apparent efforts to have Ukranian authorities announce that they were investigating a company advised by Joe Biden's son. Giuliani's previous lawyer, Jon Sale of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, confirmed he was no longer representing him after Giuliani reportedly snubbed a House subpoena.
Meanwhile, Giuliani was being probed by federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York for possibly violating lobbying laws in connection with his work in Ukraine, according to a report in the New York Times. Critics of Giuliani have accused him of giving the impression that he was acting as an agent of the U.S. government in his interactions with Ukranian officials and his efforts to tar the Bidens when he has no official role.
Efforts to contact Giuliani's new lawyers and Giuliani himself weren't immediately successful.
The announcement comes several days after an earlier report that Giuliani had been in talks with Dan Stein at Mayer Brown to represent him.
Giuliani is the latest colorful political client to turn to Pierce Bainbridge. The firm has also represented longshot Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard in a suit that accuses Google of censoring her; Michael Avenatti, the brash Trump antagonist lawyer who flirted with a presidential run before facing federal fraud charges; and George Papadopoulos, the former Trump campaign aide who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI.
