Describe your biggest win or accomplishment in practice.  Last year, I advised the founder of a family-owned business to walk on a nine-figure payout because the buyer was re-trading material points late in our process. While I usually prefer to close deals, it was rewarding to help my client maintain his focus and navigate a tough decision.

What was the most valuable lesson you learned in your first year practicing law?  Like many lawyers my age, I began my career during the 2008 financial crisis. Watching my classmates struggle through layoffs and career setbacks, I learned how successful lawyers adapt to changing environments and the value of a well-managed firm. As we navigate COVID-19, these lessons are just as valuable today.

Who is your greatest lawyer mentor and what has he or she taught you?  Paul Williams, the founder of PILPG. Traveling the world together, including for the 2011 Darfur Peace Negotiations, Paul has taught me that ultimately the client determines the object of the representation (and that no matter where you are, you can probably find a cheese pizza that is safe to eat).

Please share a brief key to your success.  As an M&A lawyer, my success depends on the support and expertise of my corporate colleagues and specialists across various subject matters. Building the right team for each deal is what allows us to excel in our practice and achieve tremendous results for our clients.
