Describe your biggest win or accomplishment in practice. I secured victories in six inter partes review proceedings before the [U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's Patent Trial and Appeal Board], resulting in the cancellation of all 81 challenged claims across five related patents. All victories are sweet, but these victories were particularly meaningful because a subset of the claims were previously found not unpatentable in other proceedings.
What was the most valuable lesson you learned in your first year practicing law? I was fortunate to start my legal career as in-house counsel at a large corporation. In that role, I quickly realized that legal decisions often have business consequences, and so it is important to analyze problems from not only a legal perspective but also from the client's perspective.
Who is your greatest lawyer mentor and what has he or she taught you? I have had incredible mentors throughout my life, but Naveen Modi at Paul Hastings has had the greatest impact on my legal practice. He has taught me to not underestimate my abilities, no matter the challenge, which has been key to my progress and accomplishments as a lawyer.
Please share a brief key to your success. Success is in the details. It is far too easy to fall victim to carelessness and inattention to detail. I learned early in my career that thoroughness and accuracy are paramount to strong work product, persuasive argument, and ultimately positive results.
