Tell us about your top U.S. Supreme Court or federal appeals court victory over the past year and how you and your team achieved the win.

Mamani v. Berzain: We prevailed in a landmark human rights case in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. For 13 years, we’ve represented Bolivian families in litigation against the former Bolivian president and defense minister stemming from a massacre of 50-plus civilians by military forces, ultimately winning a $10 million verdict that was set aside post-trial. We convinced the Eleventh Circuit not only to unanimously reverse, but also to grant a new trial on a separate claim. This win builds on our success in other human rights litigation, including a precedent-setting U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit win (over the SG’s certiorari request) in Lewis v. Mutond.
