Several groups had requested court proceedings for those charged in the Jan. 6 events be livestreamed because "the American people should be able to see the wheels of justice in motion and in real time."

A top administrative official for the federal judiciary has declined a request to allow the livestreaming of all federal court proceedings in Capitol riot cases, pointing to a current block on that kind of access in the rules governing how criminal cases are conducted.
