A lawyer on former President Donald Trump’s impeachment team Friday lashed out over a letter from more than 140 legal scholars rebuking the claim that the former president’s speech ahead of the violent Jan. 6 rally at the U.S. Capitol is protected, calling it a “bully tactic.”

Michael van der Veen, the newest member of the former president’s impeachment defense, raised his issues with the letter as he asserted during the trial that Trump could not be impeached because his remarks are protected under the Constitution.
