James Duff has labored in the Third Branch of government for 45 years, working with two chief justices (Warren Burger and William Rehnquist) and serving twice as director of the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, from 2006 to 2011, and then from 2015 to now.

In between those stints, Duff was chief executive officer of the now-closed Newseum, a tour of duty that enforced his belief in the importance of the First Amendment. Earlier, he also was managing partner at Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz.
