A Minnesota judge on Thursday reinstated a charge of third-degree murder against former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin for the death of George Floyd last year.

The decision to add the charge to Chauvin’s trial, which is currently in the middle of jury selection, followed a Minnesota Court of Appeals ruling in the state’s favor last week and the Minnesota Supreme Court’s decision on Wednesday not to consider Chauvin’s appeal of that ruling.
